Traveling chess set of Heinz Josef Foerder. nd.

Stephen Falk and Donald Falk, Point Roberts, Washington, USA

Heinz Josef Foerder, who represented Germany at the 1928 Chess Olympiad in The Hague, took his first steps as a chess player in Breslau. In 1934, Foerder emigrated to Mandatory Palestine, where he achieved further victories. Upon the proclamation of the state of Israel, he changed his name to Yosef Porath. He died in 1996. Ten years later, Stephen Falk, one of the descendants of the Silberstein and Freund families featured in the exhibition, bought this traveling chess set that once belonged to Porath at an online auction.
