String quartet with Walther Freund, early 20th c.

Stephen Falk and Donald Falk, Point Roberts, Washington, USA

For pediatrician Walther Freund, amateur performances in a string quartet were probably both entertainment and an opportunity to develop his musical talent. He inherited his love of the viola from his father, Wilhelm Salomon Freund. Walther also enjoyed performing at home with his children – Andreas, who played the violin, and Gabrielle, who played the piano.
