Nicholas Tischler, Cambridge, UK

“A vacationer at that time wanted nothing more than to inhale the scent of pine and wander,” wrote historian Willy Cohn in his journal. The Tischler family chose the Giant Mountains, not far from Breslau, as their vacation spot, but also the Austrian Alps and the beaches at Lake Müritz in Mecklenburg. Many Jews, especially the young, filled their free time with sports as well as parties and fun, such as at costume balls during the Purim holiday.
