Heinrich Tischler, Portrait of Else Tischler, 1937.

Nicholas Tischler, Cambridge, UK

Else Tischler, Heinrich Tischler’s wife, came from the Hadda family of artists. She had known her cousin Heinrich since childhood. She accompanied her husband both in life and in his career, and was his confidante, with whom he shared his artistic inspirations and dilemmas. After Heinrich’s death in 1938, Else, along with her sons Franz and Hans, fled Nazi persecution in Germany and brought her husband’s works and belongings with her to England.
